Nominum Joins Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group (MAAWG) to Keep Internet Safe
Redwood City, Calif. (PRWEB) September 15, 2008 -- Nominum (www.nominum.com), the leading provider of network naming and addressing technologies, today announced that it has joined the Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group (MAAWG) as a supporting member to contribute to the safety and security of the Internet and its users. MAAWG is a leading organization where network operators, mailbox providers and technology vendors join forces to reduce spam and message abuse on the Internet. The company also announced that Dr. Paul Mockapetris, the inventor of DNS and the company's chairman and chief scientist, will be featured as a keynote speaker at the members-only MAAWG 14th General Meeting taking place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida during September 22 - 24, 2008. This event focuses its attention on the issue of mitigating Bots and Botnets on the Internet.
The meeting sessions are open to members-only and meeting information is available by clicking here (www.MAAWG.org). Dr. Mockapetris will be featured in the following two sessions at the event: "DNSSEC: Real World Implications" and a keynote address, "What should we learn from 25 years of the Internet: A DNS case study."
"DNS technology is used in a growing number of new applications, including combating security threats and message abuse," said Dr. Paul Mockapetris. "These security applications rely on DNS because of its ability to store and propagate the exponentially growing volume of data on threats and enforce security policy at wire-line speeds without impacting the network."
Nominum is a leader of carrier-grade and commercial DNS and DHCP technologies. The company supplies its DNS software to the world's largest networks including major cable operators, DSL broadband carriers and Internet service providers serving over 150 million households around the world. The company's DNS software is used by nearly half the global wired Internet broadband users.
